The role
We are seeking a qualified primary teacher for a remote P-9 school within the Northern Territory, located 290kms northwest of Alice Springs commencing January 2020. The role is offered as a 1-year contract with an ongoing position in 2021 for the right person.
The class is a combined primary class of mainly Year 3 and 3 students, of whom all are indigenous.
This is a role where you will gain lots of experience and responsibility within a short time. You will form part of a close and focused team of educators lead by a dynamic and supportive principal within an innovative and highly focused regional team of educational advisors.
The school
Classes in the school are small and there are 10 full-time teachers and 10 teaching assistants supporting each class. The school’s enrollment is around 260 with an average attendance of 70-75%.
A key focus of the school is to increase attendance and to integrate the students’ culture and language into everyday lessons to make it meaningful for them.
Location
The community is located 290kms northeast of Alice Springs and has a population of approximately 1000 - 1300 people. It’s the largest indigenous community in Central Australia and is also one of the most studied communities in Australia. The community is well-resourced with a police station, health clinic, shops, service station, Council, aged care provision, a swimming pool and AFL is a big part of everyday life.
