The school
This P-6 Special Needs school, with about 150 students across the main campus and satellite locations, caters to children who require specialised and individualised educational programs. It delivers preschool and primary school programs. It’s located in Darwin, about 15mins from the CBD.
Classes are small and programs are developed and delivered to each of the small classes by a Teacher and Special Education Support Officer. Learning programs follow the Australian Curriculum and the Northern Territory Curriculum Framework as well as reflecting recommendations from therapists and priorities of families and carers.
The role
We are seeking a teacher for an upper primary satellite class where you would be based in a metropolitan mainstream school for four days/week and for one day at the special needs school campus.
Classes are small with generally eight students with a range of intellectual, physical and development disabilities including behavioural issues. There is a full-time teaching assistant as well as a floating assistant shared with another class.
The position is offered as a Semester 2 contract commencing July 20th, 2020 with the possibility of a permanent position for the right person.
About you
Professionally, we are seeking a teacher with special needs qualifications and/or experience and/or a strong desire to develop their teaching expertise in this area by working in a dedicated special needs school.
The personal qualities that are required for teaching and working in this environment include resilience, adaptability, warmth, a positive attitude and a love of working with children with moderate to severe special needs.
New Graduate teachers with special needs and/or disability training OR an interest in working with children with special needs, are welcome to apply.
Salary package
An excellent salary is offered in accordance with the Northern Territory teacher salary award. An airfare to Darwin is provided as well as a generous relocation allowance.
