Who will be my employer in Abu Dhabi?

Teachers who are employed to work in National Schools in Abu Dhabi, will be employed by the Government of Abu Dhabi. 

What support can I expect to receive on arrival in Abu Dhabi?

Successful candidates will participate in Orientation days upon arrival to Abu Dhabi, which will provide an insight into the Education System and Teaching in Abu Dhabi, cultural sensitivities and other aspects of life in Abu Dhabi.  Support and assistance with setting up bank accounts, medical checks and getting started is also provided.

How large are classes in Abu Dhabi public schools?

Class sizes are between 20-30 students.

What is student behaviour like?

Student behaviour can vary, depending on the school and the administrative support within the school, the age and gender of the students.  Some Teachers experience little behaviour management issues, whilst others need to focus on this aspect in their day-to-day teaching.

What subjects will I be required to teach?

Early Childhood/Primary Teachers will be required to teach English, Math, Science and an Integrated IT curriculum.

Could I be the only Western Teacher placed in a School?

Usually, there are 3-5 Western Teachers in each school.  This is a valuable aspect of placing Teachers, to ensure there is good support network of Teachers in place in each school.

Will all students be proficient at English?

No, essentially you will be teaching English as a Second Language.  English proficiency may vary from class to class, but you can assume the standards of English will be little to no English.

What is the working week?

Teachers will be required to work Sunday - Thursday.  You will not be required to work on the weekends or National Holidays.

When are holidays in Abu Dhabi?

Summer holiday in Abu Dhabi usually begins approximately mid-June until the second week of August. Teachers are advised of the specific dates of the summer holiday at the beginning of the school year. Foreign teachers will be paid for all national holidays that fall within a working week and all school vacation.

SALARY PACKAGES

What sort of salary can I expect to earn?

Your salary will be dependent upon your teaching qualifications and classroom experience.

Will I be taxed on my salary in Abu Dhabi?

No, salary in the UAE is tax free so teachers will not be deducted any income tax. However, we encourage teachers to check with their home country regarding tax requirements and their responsibilities while teaching overseas.

Will they pay for my flight?  And what about my family?

Yes, your flights will be arranged and paid for.  Some schools reimburse Teachers with the cost of their flight over to the UAE at the commencement of their contract and the end of their contract. Yearly air-tickets are also provided in between the years of the contract. Flights are paid for the teacher, their spouse, and up to three dependents up to the age of 18.

Do I receive Health Insurance?

Yes, Teachers are provided with reputable medical insurance once the necessary paper work is completed upon arrival to the UAE. Teachers are provided this information upon arrival about the insurance plans and providers available.

The Education Council is responsible for 100% of the premium of the medical insurance as per the approved government health care plan. Health care is most often arranged with a private health care provided as it is convenient and reasonably priced. Dental is most often not included.

Any other benefits?

Yes! Teachers will be paid an end of contract bonus equal to the amount of one month salary per year at the completion of the contract. All contracts are 2 years in length, renewable.
